The centrepiece of the Jigging Machine is the stationary jig box with jig plate. During operation the lower box and jig box are filled with water and connected via a membrane. The periodically pulsating water flow via the jig plate necessary for the settling movement comes from the lower box which is actuated by an eccentric shaft. The jig feed is thus periodically raised and the grains of the jig feed settle in the direction of the jig plate after each stroke depending on their individual initial settling movement.
